Way back when I was a young man there was an excellent HK club known as Privé which was quite famous as being one of the more exclusive member’s clubs in town. I was lucky enough to get a chance to party there on several occasions, and became quite well-known after parachuting into the club one Friday night to avoid the cover charge. But the club sadly closed down and is nothing more than a distant memory for many HK clubbers.
However, the good news is that the Privé Group is back, launching the Bungalow Club as their new party concept in late 2014. I was sadly stuck in Vladivostok when they held the launch party, but I traveled to HK in March 2015 and joined a friend’s bday bash at Bungalow. Getting into the club can be a challenge – don’t even think about it unless you’re dressed fancier than a couture model – and the price tag for entry and drinks has been known to strike mortal fear in anyone with a net worth less than seven figures. Luckily I grossed over a billion HK$ back in 2008 after discovering a rich vein of gold running through Kowloon and was able to afford shouting my friend a VIP table for the event.
Bungalow definitely disappoint that night, and I’ve since been back a few times with friends (although on no other occasion did the bill at the end of the night exceed a length of 3 feet, which is a good thing, my accountant tells me). If you’ve got the cash to splash around you’ll be hard pressed to find a more fun HK venue, and in some ways I reckon Bungalow has exceeded the quality of its predecessor.
