Tucked away down a side street in Seoul’s famous Hongdae district is where you’ll find Club Cocoon, a popular although somewhat less fun option than many of the city’s other excellent nightlife venues. I’ve been to Cocoon a few times and while it’s not a terrible place to spend a few million Korean won, there are far better – for example Answer or Octagon are far superior venues and not much more expensive.
I guess there are a few things that work in Cocoon’s favor, though. The club is open every night of the week until the ridiculous time of 6:30am, so if you’re a fan of dancing on a Monday or Tuesday night Cocoon poses one option for you. The place never gets too busy early in the week, and most of the club goers are dudes hoping to score with a hot Korean babe (sorry gents but it looks like you’ll have to settle for sausages again!). If you come on a Friday or Saturday night you’ll find a few more ladies and also the place is more fun in general. Being a student district the majority of the clubbers are quite young, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re over 35.
Cocoon isn’t a bad club, and indeed compared to many other cities that I’ve visited it’s actually pretty fun. But when it’s up against such awesome other nightlife venues that Seoul has to offer, I can’t recommend visiting unless you’re in the area or your friends have their hearts set on hitting the club.
